Riebe Lab
- Exploring the Critical Zone -

Welcome to the Riebe Lab website. This site supplements Cliff Riebe’s page on the UW Geology and Geophysics website. Here you can find out who’s working on what and check out Cliff’s course webpages.

Research statement:
My lab group studies the critical zone -- the life-sustaining layer that extends from the top of vegetation to the lower limits of groundwater at depth under regolith. As the interface between air and rock, the critical zone integrates everything from the biologically-mediated breakdown of minerals to the effects of climate change and tectonics on soil formation and sediment transport. Hence, there is a lot of exciting, cross-disciplinary potential in the work that we do.
