Green River Canoe Trip -- August 2000

These pictures are from a canoe trip down the Green River in Utah in August 2000.  I'll be adding more description to them shortly, but for now I just wanted to make the images available for the other trip members.

Viewing notes:  These pages show moderately sized "thumbnail" images.  You should try to use at least a 1024 x 768 window for your browser to have the main pages laid-out correctly but you can still view them in a smaller window.  If you click on the thumbnail you can get a large version of each image -- typically about 250K bytes and roughly 1600 x 1200.

Technical notes on the images:  The large images are scanned from the slides at 1200 DPI on an HP ScanJet 6350 using a transparency adapter.  They lose considerable resolution and dynamic range in the process.  The originals are all on Kodachrome 64, taken with an Olympus OM2n.

The Green River flows from its source in the Wind River Mountains of Wyoming to its confluence with the Colorado River in Canyonlands National Park in Utah.  The first map gives an overview of the Canyonlands region while the second shows a close-up of the section we traveled.

We put in at Crystal Geyser, a few miles below the town of Green River, Utah on August 14.  We paddled/floated through Labyrinth then Stillwater Canyons, reaching the Confluence with the Colorado on August 22.  On the 23rd we were picked up by jet boat and taken up the Colorado to Moab.  The miles listed on the maps and pages below are measured upstream from the Confluence.
